CHAINSAW REPAIRS & FAULT DIAGNOSIS

Chainsaw repairs and fault diagnosis in Bedfordshire

A chainsaw that cuts slowly or pulls to one side may need attention to its chain or guide bar, while poor starting and missing chain lubrication require different checks. RJW welcomes enquiries from St Neots and Cambridge. Share the saw model and symptoms to discuss an assessment and confirm the arrangements before travelling.

CUTTING, LUBRICATION & ENGINE FAULTS

What has changed about your chainsaw?

Describe whether the problem affects starting, the way the saw cuts or the oil reaching the chain. These symptoms involve different components and help guide the assessment.

01

Slow cutting or pulling to one side

A blunt or unevenly worn chain and guide-bar wear can affect cutting. Chainsaw chain sharpening may be suitable when the chain remains serviceable; damaged or excessively worn components may need replacing. Tell us whether the saw cuts slowly, produces fine dust or pulls to one side.

02

Oil is not reaching the chain

A blocked oil passage or an oil-system fault may interrupt lubrication. Stop using the saw if the chain is not receiving oil so the cause can be checked before further use.

03

Difficult starting or unreliable idling

Fuel delivery, ignition and engine condition can produce similar symptoms. Our small-engine repair guide explains why diagnosis comes before deciding whether cleaning or replacement parts are appropriate.

Before booking a chainsaw repair

Give us the details of the saw and the fault

Send the make and model, the bar and chain details if known, and a description of what happens during use. A photograph of the identification label can help identify the machine and suitable components.

For engine problems, explain whether the saw is difficult to start from cold, stops once warm or will not idle. For cutting problems, mention any recent contact with soil or other material and whether the chain has already received attention.

Stop using the saw if chain lubrication is not working or a safety component is faulty. Mention any problem with the chain brake when enquiring. Assessment arrangements, proposed work and costs are discussed before repairs are authorised.

You can also enquire about chainsaw servicing before a fault develops. Send the make, model and service history so Rhys can discuss the maintenance appropriate to your saw.

Chainsaw repair FAQs

Why does my chainsaw cut slowly or pull to one side? +

A blunt or unevenly sharpened chain, incorrect tension or guide-bar wear can affect cutting. Stop using the saw if it becomes difficult to control. Share the chain and bar details and describe when the cutting problem first appeared.

Ask about a chainsaw cutting problem ↗
Why is oil not reaching my chainsaw chain? +

Low chain oil, a blocked passage or a fault in the oiling system may prevent lubrication. Stop using the saw until the problem has been addressed; running the chain without lubrication can cause rapid wear.

Request a chain-oiling assessment ↗
Why will my chainsaw not start or idle properly? +

Fuel condition, airflow, ignition faults and engine wear can cause similar symptoms. Tell us whether the problem occurs when cold or warm and whether the engine starts briefly before stopping. Inspection helps establish which system needs attention.

Can I use a chainsaw if its chain brake is not working? +

No. Stop using the saw if the chain brake or another safety component is damaged or not operating correctly. Explain the fault when contacting Rhys and arrange an assessment before using the saw again.
